Background
The Annexus series enables us to tell the story of special sites. Single vineyards expressions that are a snapshot of their soils, climate and vintage. For the Annexus Grenache, low-yielding ancestor vines planted in 1858 from the Stonegarden Vineyard in Eden Valley are utilised.
Conditions
The 2022 vintage was set up beautifully with good soil moisture carrying over from the mild 2021 vintage. A significant October hail event reduced yields in some vineyards, but luckily most escaped without impacting quality. La Nina influenced weather patterns resulted in mild harvest conditions again, allowing for even flavour accumulation and vibrant aromatics and acidity. A standout season.
Winemaking
Fermentation occurred in a small, open top fermenters, incorporating a small number of whole bunches to accentuate Grenache’s savoury characters.
Maturation
The wine was barrel matured for 14 months in seasoned French oak hogsheads. 300 cases made.
