Specifications
Background
The Annexus series enables us to tell the story of special sites. Single vineyard expressions that are a snapshot of their soils, climate and vintage. For the Annexus Shiraz a different site is chosen each year. In 2022 the Chapman family's vineyard situated in the Moppa district of Barossa Valley was selected. Planted on the famed Kalimna sands, the vineyard produces a complex, ageworthy style of shiraz.
Conditions
The 2022 vintage was set up beautifully with good soil moisture carrying over from the mild 2021 vintage. A significant October hail event reduced yields in some vineyards, but luckily most escaped without impacting qual- ity. La Nina influenced weather patterns resulted in mild harvest conditions again, allowing for even flavour accumulation and vibrant aromatics and acidity. A standout season. sub-region of the northern Barossa Valley. This small part of Moppa is re- nown for its deep sandy soils. In fact, the vineyard is just over the fence from Penfolds and its famed Kalimna sands. John has worked with the Chapman family for decades, and in his time at Penfolds the vineyard was often a contributor to Grange. Impeccable shiraz country.
